Voopoo Drag X Pod Kit Review.
Voopoo seem to be on fire at the moment, bringing out a whole string of quality products, all based around their new tank/pod and coil system, the seemless onepiece PNP Tank.
Voopoo seem to be bluring the lines between the mod and the pod, who would have thought that a product with the word pod in the title, would fire up 70w.
At Newvaping.com they have the full range of Voopoo devices including the full DRAG range of podmod's
The Drag Pod Mod Series follows closely behind the Vinci series which were the first of its kind to move away from the classic 510 connection, and introduce magnets to attach the tank/pod to the body. The Drag series seem to have taken it to the next level, and in doing so, have created a whole sub-series with the PNP Tank. 510 adaptors and the newly launched RTA. All using the same one piece blown glass style design and magnets.
As with the Vinci series, Voopoo have created a standard Drag, The S, which features a built in battery, and the X, which allows you to use your 18650, cleverly opening up the Drag to new and old vapours alike.

Design and Build Quality.
The Voopoo Drag X is absolutely stunning and one of the best looking mod/pods on the market, giving it a classic high end look and feel.
The padded fine leather grip, gives it a really nice tactile feel to it, especial with the contrasting sticking. And finished off with the embossed DRAG branding, which again gives it a premium look and feel. I really like the addition of the leather, a lot of mods can feel a bit cold and lifeless, but this is definitely not the case with the Drag Range.
The alloy body section has been very well designed, a flows really nicely around the featured grip. With no sharp edges, and feels great in the hand. And coming in at 167 grams, it has a nice weight to it, without being to heavy. And very well balanced.
The only part of the Drag X which has any sharpness is actually the airflow controller. Which I think could have had a bit of a round knob. I would of actually have preferred a little ball on the end of it, or a more flattened out grip slider.
Airflow Control.
Apart from the edges on the control switch, the airflow is superb, with a short range slider located on the back of the device, which opens and closes off the opening on each side, creating a well balanced air intake. Single sided airflow is one of my pet hates, don’t know why, but it just bugs me when a device just has an airflow slot on one side.
With the air-flow completely closed off, it delivers a satisfying tight MTL inhale, whilst wide open allows for large DTL inhales. Although a little noisy.
Controls & Display.
I have been really impressed with Voopoo displays, both the Vinci and Drag Series have a crisp and vibrant screen that displays all the relevant information in a clear and easy to read layout. The 0.96” TFT Screen on the Voopoo Drag X from what i can see is exactly to same as on the Vinci. And operates in the same manner due to both have the Gene Chip set
One of the main features on the Gene chip is the ability ‘Smart Sense’ the coil, and regulate the wattage accordingly. The Smart setting is indicted In the top left of the screen, where it tells you what system you are using. This is also indicated by the colour of the screen, Blue = RBA Mode which allows full control of the device, raising the wattage all the way up the 80 watts, and Red = Smart Mode, which will top out the wattage at the allowed wattage of the coil installed.
In the opposite corner (top left) is a very clear battery level indicator, and just below that is the locked/unlocked indicator.
The center of the screen is a refreshingly large wattage indicator, along with the coil resistance, and voltage draw just below.
The rest of the screen is taken up with a draw chart and puff counter.
Located above the screen is the fire button, which is well finished, well sized, and a satisfying click.
The simple control buttons located under the screen, raised up just enough to be easily found. With a matching satisfying click.
As with most new devices, the Drag X features a type C charging and update port, with a 2Amp charging rate which is definitely a positive.
The Battery Compartment
The main thing that separates the Drag X from the Drag S is the interchangeable 18650 Battery cell, the battery is accessed through the base of the device, through a well manufactured battery door, that is held shut through a simple slide and lock system. Which, when a battery is installed springs the door open.
The VooPoo Drag X Pod/tank.
The stand out design feature on the New Drag X has to be the newly designed Pod, which has been manufactured out of a single piece of PCTG (Poly – Cyclohexylenedimethylene Terephthalate Glycol). And looks more like a tank than a pod, with its preformed mouth piece, which I must say is super comfortable when vaping on, due to its flowing bottle like curves.
The lightly tinted PCTG allows for you to have a perfect view of your juice levels, which has been one of my biggest complaints of other lesser pod systems.
The base of the Pod, black plastic, houses the PnP coil, which simply press fits into the base, no awkward threading, just simple press it in, and you are ready to go. Due to its simplicity it means that the base of the coil makes direct contact with the spring loaded positive pin coming directly out of the body. Which must reduce a voltage drop.
The coil is surrounded by four strong magnets, which hold the pod securely in place.
VooPoo Drag Connection System.
VooPoo have made the brave move to drop the threaded 510 connection, and swapped it for a 360 magnet connection, meaning that it makes no difference which way around you fit the pod, and can actually fully rotate it whilst in place.
The magnets are super strong, for their size, and hold it firmly in place with no chance of it accidentally coming off, and strong enough to constantly keep the connection with the coil, due to the spring loaded positive pin sticking up through the middle of the 360 metal magnet ring.
Having removed the threaded connection, and swapping for a magnetic system, means that they can locate the fill hole on the base of the device, allowing them to keep the top section of the pod clear and uncluttered. Very very clever design, and may way become the standard attachment method for pods going forward, as it works so well.
Further developments.
Looking on the VooPoo website, they are taking this pod design, and running with it, and have developed the design into a stand alone PnP Tank with magnetic 510 base, meaning that you can use your PnP tank on your normal mod, and they have also developed a 510 adaptor for the Drag X, meaning that you will be able to install your favourite atty’s.
And the latest development is the RTA PnP tank which will allow you to rebuild to your hearts content. Which I will hopefully be reviewing soon.
The VooPoo Drag X Performance
I have been super impressed with the Drag X, using the included PnP Coils.
0.15ohm PnP – VM6 – Mesh Coil Recommendation 60 - 80w
I vaped on TRU Juice Blackcurrant Raspberry & Lime and started of at 30w as 60 to 80w just seemed quite high for a pod, and found the flavour a little muffled, so worked my way up through the wattage, and a soon as you got up to around 65w the flavour seemed to just come alive with the berries really starting to burst through, and moving up to 70 to 80w the vape was quite warm, but a super intense flavour vape. Very impressed for a stock coil
0.3ohm PnP – VM1 – Mesh Coil Recommendation 32 - 40 w
Filled up again with TRU Juice Blackcurrant Raspberry & Lime and went straight in at 35 watts, and although the flavour was good, it wasn’t a patch on the VM6 coil, which had set quite a high bar, at 40w it seemed to improve but just felt a little bit lacking, and left you wanting more
Leakage ?
One of the main issues with a lot of the pod systems on the market, especially ones with bottom fill, is Leakage, and no only giving you messy fingered, but serious leakage can destroy your device. I have been using the Drag X for the last 3 weeks, at work and home, in and out of my pocket, and tried standing over night, as well as lying down, full over night. And pleased to report that there have been ZERO issues with leakage, although you do get some tiny amounts of condensation around the base of the coil. But no leakage. Which is a massive plus.
Positives 👍
- Interchangeable 18650 battery
- Looks and feels amazing
- Easy airflow control
- suitable for both new and old vapors.
- Simple to use
- Type c port
- Magnet connection
- No leakage
- Accessories available
- Smart setting.
- RBA setting
- Up to 80w
Negatives 👎
- Airflow knob a bit sharp
- 0.3ohm coil could be better
Conclusion
VooPoo are definitely pushing the bar with the new devices they are bringing out, and the Drag X is an amazing Pod Mod, and is my new favourite Mod Pod. Taking over from the Vinci. Can wait to try out the upcoming RTA PnP Tank. As if it works, it could be near Pod-Mod Perfection, so let’s wait and see.
