Snow Wolf Body.
The Snow Wolfs main body is machines out of one piece thick stainless steel, that encases the device.
The uncluttered outer edge of body, has a brushed finish, with well machined curved edges, that gives the device a really premium heavy feel to it. With high quality laser etching down the spine of the device. "Snow Wolf 200w"
The front and back of the device have black tinted glass set into them, which adds to the premium high quality feel. Although you defiantly wouldn't want to drop it. As I'm unsure how tough the glass is.
The base of the device has 3 rows of 9 vent holes, which have been machined through the device.
On the left of the base is a small cut, which houses the battery cover notch, that allows easy removal f the Magnetic rear battery cover.
510 Connection.
Located on the left hand side of the top of the stainless steel body, is the recessed 510 connection, with a sprung loaded brass centre pin.
Unlike other mods I have reviewed, the snow wolf's 510 connection is completely flush mounted, with no raised surround, or air channelling, which did concern me slightly, that the Atomiser would start to mark the top of the device. All atomisers that I attached, connected well, with no issues what so ever.
Control buttons.
The Snow Wolf 200w only has 3 small matching stainless steel buttons, which are very well machined and fit perfectly, with zero button rattle, and a very satisfying mechanical sounding click.
The larger button, the fire button, has multiple uses, pressing the button ones, turns the device on, pressing the button, 5 times then unlocks the device, and ready's it to fire. Along with firing the device.
The (+) and (-) buttons are used to vary the wattage and temperature of the device.
Pressing both the (+) and (-) at the same time allows you to switch between adjusting the temperature and the wattage.
OLED Screen.
The Snow Wolf Features a 2.5cm wide x 1cm tall blue OLED screen, located toward the top of the device, which when not in use seemlessly disappears behind the dark smoked glass.
The screen clearly displays all the required information that you need.
- Battery Bar Indicator
- ohm of attached Atomizer
- output voltage
- temperature setting
- wattage setting.
After use the OLED screen will dim after 20 seconds, and turn off after 30 seconds. The device is still on and ready to fire, it has just gone into sleep mode. And as soon as any of the control buttons are pressed it awakens back up and displays you settings.
If the device is left unused for 30 minutes, the device will automatically lock, and will require 5 clicks of the the fire button to unlock it. Whilst locked it displays "Locked Click 5x"
Temperature Control
TC on the Snow Wolf couldn't be simpler, build your Nickel build on your chosen Atomizer, and screw it on, the Snow Wolf will then ask you if you have fitted a new Atomizer, which you can answer yes or no, by pressing the + or - button. The device then detects that you have installed a nickel build and want to run the device in Temperature mode, and then start firing at your chosen temperature, no menus to work through, or settings to select, just Vape away and let the device do the maths.
When you then switch back to using kanthal, again it will ask if you have installed a new Atomizer, then as you press the fire button and begin to Vape, the mod starts to switch back to non-temp mode, to start with it will fire at a lower wattage than selected and seems to continue to Vape in temp mode, then after a couple of puffs, the switch is complete, and the temp setting disappears, and it continues to Vape at your chosen wattage setting.
Battery tray & cover.
The back plate of the Snow Wolf has a matching smoked glass plate, and is simply removed by pulling away at the cut out section on the bottom of the device. The battery cover is securely held in place three magnets.
One large magnet in the bottom corner, and two smaller magnets in the opposite top corner, this seems to create a very secure hold, requiring just the right amount remove. Although held securely in place there is a slight amount of sideways movement of the back panel, which did seem to detract from the overall build quality.
Once the panel is removed it reveals the neatly laid out battery tray, which securely holds the 2 x 18650 batteries, which need to be flat tops. The battery ribbon allows for easy removal of the batteries, once inserted in place. These seem to have gone for standard stainless sprung battery contracts.
This option doesn't seem to detract from the overall performance of the device.
Atheistic's and Build Quality
From the moment you take the Snow Wolf out of the box, and hold it in your hand, you can't help but be impressed with its build quality, it has such a solid quality feel to it, that really makes this mod stand out from crowd, the combination of stainless steel and glass panels, seems to give it a real iPhone-Esk feel to it. They have chosen an uncluttered clean design, with no excessive branding. The stainless body, has been really well machined, with zero sharpe edges, and just feels great in the hand.
The back panel magnets are some of the best I have come across, it holds with just the right amount of force, and just snaps in and out perfectly, the stainless steel detailing around the edge of the back panel, just finishes off the quality well built feel.
Being ultra picky, I do think that the 510 connection is set slightly to far to the left, as when you fit a 22mm Atomizer, it's edge sits slightly over the curving edge of the body.
But overall the Snow Wolf, has a great look and feel, that is a pleasure to hold and use, with a very impressive quality feel to it.
Although noticeably heavier than other mods on the market, size wise it sits along side the Siegel, although slightly wider, which I think adds to the comfort in the hand, (depending on the size of your hand.)
Performance & Real World Experiences.
You can't help but be impressed, when using the Snow Wolf, with its ultra simple set up and menu system, and auto switching between temp and normal mode, it really is just a joy to use. With a freshly charged set of 18650 batteries it has a faultless performance, with no lag on firing, and instant delivery of power, as soon as the fire button is pressed.
You can Vape all the way upto 150W using DC, as you crank the wattage up above 150w it moves to Pulse Width, which produces an on/off type firing action. And a real USP on the Snow Wolf is that it will fire upto 70w in Temperature mode, which is one of the highest on the market at present.
I did find that as the battery charge dropped to between a 1/2 and 1/4 there seem to be a noticeable reduction in performance, although the it still seemed to be firing at the chosen wattage, you could just notice the difference in the power deliverance.
The Snow Wolf performed faultlessly in temp mode, after building my first well spaced Nickel build, and screwing it on, and confirming the new Atomizer. It automatically switched into temp mode, and fired away, vaporising continually through the Ejuice, with no dry hits.
I did find the Nickel build slightly tricker to maintain, when changing out the cotton, due to the softness of the coil, you just need to ensure that you are extra careful when pulling out the old cotton, as the coil seems to easily mis-shape. And also you definitely need to over wick the coil, to ensure that you don't get any hot spots on the coil, as I did find that I popped a few coils at the end, due to lack of cotton under the coil.
My only real issue I found having used the Snow Wolf every day for the last couple of weeks, is the fact that you can't lock in your chosen wattage or temperature. And can be easily mis-adjusted by accidentally pressing either of the adjust buttons.
Conclusion.
I have been really impressed with the Snow Wolf 200w, since the moment I got it out of the box, it is just such a well thought out and constructed mod. That seems to have the feel in the hand of a well made mechanical box mod, but with the heart of a market leading VW/TC device. I would definitely recommend this device for anyone looking to venture into the world of Temperature control, or just looking for a powerful, very well made box mod.
