The Combo RDTA kit includes everything you need to get started, and will suit a wide ranging level of vapers, it comes fully with the standard gold plated velocity style deck pre-installed and ready to either put a build in, or use the dual pre-made coil.
Due to the expansive nature of the IJOY Combo RDTA I will start by breaking down what you get in the kit, into a its component parts, build back up. Then put a basic build on it, before I then move on to the additional components which can be purchased separately to cover all your Vaping needs and styles. And final give you my thoughts on the IJOY Combo RDTA.
The Combo can easily be broken down into its component parts for cleaning and when switching between styles of deck.
Drip Tip & Chuff Cap
The Combo comes with two styles of drip tips included in the kit, the pre-installed. One piece Delrin chuff cap, which screws directly down onto the airflow control ring. And has a massive 12.3mm bore, allowing for massive airflow directly off the coil.
The second option, included in the kit is to install the 510 adapter Delrin top cap, and the included delrin 510 drip Tip, which has a bore of around 9.8mm and 11mm tall, or you can use one of your own if you wish. I found that I preferred using the 510 drip Tip, I preferred the draw on it, and found I got less spit back from the Coils.
Both of the Drip Tip / Top caps had nice cross hatch knarling running around the outer edge, which is great for fine tuning the airflow.
Air-flow Control Ring.
Unlike the the Limitless RDTA & RDTA +, the Combo's top cap and air-flow ring come apart, to allow you to interchange them, the stainless steel airflow ring has a threaded top section, to allow you to attach your chosen top cap,
Just below the threading are the dual o-rings, which holds the airflow ring securely in place on the chamber, and allows for the perfect amount of resistance when adjusting the airflow. Which is controlled by aligning the slots in the airflow ring, against the chamber slots.
Chamber Cap.
The Combo comes with a stylish chamber cap, mine was matt black, with the gold printed logo on the front featuring, what I think is a bear, and Combo RDTA written under neath. The Chamber stands about 17.5mm tall, so when the deck is installed gives a nice compact size chamber to intensify the flavour.
The chamber has two apposing horizontal slots, measuring approximately 15mm wide by about 1.5mm deep, which when wide open provides a massive amount of air-flow, which with there location hits the Coils directly on the sides.
Juice Ring.
The Cleverly designed juice ring, which is exactly the same design as on the Limitless RDTA Plus, threads down over the deck, completes the top section of the tank.
The juice ring, I think could be made out of brass, if not it has the same colouring, it has a reduced diameter of 23.5mm to allow the chamber to fit down over the top, and sits around 12.5mm tall. It has two large recessed o-rings which hold the chamber firmly in place, with just the right amount of resistance. A good test of the fit, that I use is to see if you can pick up your mod by the chamber, and see if it hold, and even with the Snow Wolf attached it holds firm.
The o-rings sit either side of the juice fill port which is located on one side, which measures 10.5mm by about 4mm, which is just about wide enough to fit a dropper into to fill up, if you lay ther atty over at about 45 degrees, , but I find I tend to use a syringe to fill it for ease.
The juice ring has a lip and o-ring running around the bottom, which nicely seals it onto the tank.
You just need to be careful not to over tighten it, as if you do, you find that you can end up unscrewing the deck at the same time as the ring, which is not good.
On the Limitless Plus, the juice ring always used to tighten up perfectly, so the fill port lined up between the two wicks, where with the Combo, due to the deck not being in a fixed position, depending on how tight you screw it on, you can end up with the fill port being off line.
Tank
The Combo RDTA features Pyrex glass tank (plus one spare) which measures 15mm X 25mm that when installed gives you a juice capacity of 6.5ml.
The Pyrex glass tank is held firmly in place on the base, with 2 o-rings.
Base Section.
The base section and 510 connection, is what allows the Combo its level of flexibility.
The base section has a long removable gold plated centre pin, set in a white peak insulator ring, which runs up through the centre post directly into the bottom of the build deck.
The centre post runs up to the build deck, it widens out towards to top, which houses the additional threading which allows for the build decks to be inter changed.
Build Deck.
The Combo RDTA kit includes two build decks IMC-2 & IMC3,
IMC-2 is a clamp style deck, with the spring loaded screw in the middle of each clamp, each clamp has runner edges that continue down the side of the block, to assist in locating the coil tails. Perfect for fatter wires and all types of ribbon wire.
IMC-3 is a velocity style deck, with small cross screws in each side to tighten down on the coil tails. Which is different to the Limitless Plus which split the screws between the sides and the top of the post. - this deck is super simple to build on, and holds some fat Coils.
Both decks are gold plated a feature of threaded short base post and hole for the centre pin to thread directly into.
The kit also includes a pre-made coil, which also threads down on to the centre post,
The pre-made coil set features a kanthal dual coil build which comes in at 0.3ohms and is designed to run at 40-80watts, the coil comes packed with a rubber sleeve to protect the cotton tails. I found that I needed to trim off the cotton tails as they were a little long.
Changing out the build decks:
Photo of deck removed next to pin and post.
1. Using the blue screwdriver, loosen and remove the gold plated positive pin.
2. Unscrew & remove the juice ring
3. Unscrew & remove the build deck.
3. Unscrew & remove the build deck.
4. Screw in the deck of your choice
3. Screw the postive pin back in. Ensure that you don't over tighten it.
3. Screw the postive pin back in. Ensure that you don't over tighten it.
Strangely you don't get any instructions with the Combo RDTA, so it was a bit of trial and error.
The Combo RDTA build.
After choosing your deck, it's time to stick a build on it.
I choose go with the included velocity style deck, and put a couple of 28awg Coils in it.
Then as with the limitless RDTA plus, it's just a matter of threading your cotton wicks through the Coils.
I tend to cut them off level with the top of the glass, the wicks don't have to run all the way to the bottom.
Then tuck the wicks into the cut outs on the deck, then screw down the juice ring.
Once in place, you can the juice it up, and I like to poke a tool down next to each wick, to ensure that the air can work its way back out of the tank.
IJOY have cleverly designed the Combo to grow with you, and to try and provide a solution to all your Vaping needs now and in the future, the build deck will also be compatible with the new up coming devices from IJOY such as the all new IJOY RDTA Bx 200w, so you will be able to swap over your favourite build deck, Coils an all, very clever. It gives you a level of customisation that I have not come across before.
RDA Base.
The RDA base section allows you to convert your deck over from a RDTA to an RDA, with out even having to take your Coils out. The base has a fixed 510 pin, that connects straight up to were the deck connects. When the deck is threaded down and installed it leaves a void underneath which acts as a small juice reserve, so when wicking the RDA , you still need to have amount of wick running down in to the juice ports.
IMC-1 this Goon style deck, with twin clamps with dual securing screws, perfect for installing fat Coils and the widest selection ribbon wire..
IMC-4 This dual post deck, with tall guillotine style securing screws, will hold allows you to build with some of the thickest wire, I have haven't managed to find any Coils that wouldn't fit it in with ease.
IMC-5 This horizontal wide bore slot deck, has four cross head securing screws, it was my least favourite beck to build on, as I found it fiddly to line up the coil tails, they just kept jumping out as I tried to screw them down, need a little more practice.
IMC-6 This classic three post deck, features four separate Post holes, with chunky cross head screws to securely hold your builds in place. Nice and easy to build, as long as you pre-cut the coil tails to length.
Ceramic Chuff Cap
This optional Chuff Cap, is crafted out of white Ceramic, with a 12.5mm bore, and dual o-rings to hold it securely in place, the cuff cap designed specifically designed Combo has the required cut outs to control the air-flow. The only thing I didn't like about the ceramic, was when in touched your teeth. It looked great when paired up with the dA set up.
Real world Performance
I absolutely loved the Limitless RDTA plus, and the Combo performance wise matches it Vape for Vape, with the added benefit off the customisation of the decks, and the ability to transform it into a dripper.
The Combo is a true dream to build on, I have had zero issues with wicking, which is normally the case with Geni style tanks. I love the fact that should your wicks get to gunked up, you can just switch them out with out have to empty out the juice.
The Limitless Plus & Combo RDTA are some of the best Genesis style tanks on the market at the moment, the flavour that you get out of this RDTA is amazing, absolutely spot on, due to the fact that the Coils are set at the top, so close to the drip Tip. It gives you the flavour of an RDA, with the convenience of a tank.
Conclusion.
This RDTA defiantly comes highly recommended, and is a must have purchase if you out there either looking at getting into building, who can start out with the pre-made chip Coils or an experienced Vapor, looking for a customisable, and the ability to transfer there favourite build from one device to another.
The only negatives I have found, having used the Combo for the last few weeks, is as I mentioned the fact that the juice ring doesn't always end up lining up, and you can end up unscrewing the deck at the same time if your not carefully.
Plus if I had to change one thing, I would swap out the Goon deck that comes in kit with the RDA Base. Which I think would give you more flexibility straight out of the box.
