It’s a question every new vaper asks. “What eliquid should I use?” They ask it in vape shops when they’re confronted with bottles of various shapes, strengths and sizes. They type it into Google. And they ask it on Twitter and Facebook.
The easier answer to give you would be “whichever ones you like.” But it’s not quite that simple. To make the right choice, you need to make an informed choice. And that means taking the following four factors into account.
Nicotine strength, PG/VG balance, flavour and brand.
So let’s find the right liquid for you.
Choosing the Right Nicotine Strength
Most people switch to vaping after smoking for a period of time. As such, they’re looking for a way of getting a nicotine fix without all of the chemicals contained in cigarette smoke.
But unlike cigarettes, eliquids come with a nicotine strength on the label. So which should you choose?
There’s not a set “if you smoke 9 of cigarette brand B per day, you need 7.89mg of nicotine in your liquid” sum, so we need to use a rule of thumb.
How much did you smoke per day? The right strength for you.
0 Cigarettes 0mg
>10 Cigarettes 6mg
11-20 Cigarettes 11mg
20+ Cigarettes 18mg
Note: These figures are for standard (high PG) liquids. If you choose a high VG liquid (and more on that next), choose a lower-strength liquid. They make 3mg VG liquids for this very reason.
Choosing the Right PG/VG Balance
The next question is all about PG and VG.
If you don’t know what that means, click the link below and read the Beginners Guide.
We could explain the difference, but this choice all depends on the type of vape you use. Is it a pen vape? Use a high PG liquid. Is it a huge, chunky box mod? Use a high VG liquid.
Not sure? Track down a 50/50 liquid. They work with pretty much anything.
Choosing the Right Flavour
Now there’s definitely no sum here! It’s a matter of what you like. Do you like fruit? Get a fruity flavour! Prefer mint or menthol? There are loads of flavours ranging from mild spearmint to icy menthol that’ll give you a cool kick.
Strangely, vapers over 30 tend to prefer simple flavours like sweets, mints and tobacco, while younger vapers like blended exotic and fruity flavours.
Is there a scientific reason for this? Probably not. But it might help influence your choice!
Choosing the Right Brand
It’s pretty obvious that your flavour choices are a matter of personal preference, but doesn’t that apply to brands too? Surely you just go with a brand you recognise, or that has a fun name or a good label?
Well you can – or you could take the following into account:
· Value: All eliquid is made from the same ingredients. PG, VG, nicotine and flavourings. Why pay over the odds for an identical product?
· Range: Some brands only manufacture a handful of flavours, others dozens. Why stick with a narrow range of options?
· Location: Without sharing scare stories, you want a brand that makes its own liquid in the UK or the EU, and that’s TPD compliant. Why risk your health with untrustworthy manufacturers?
There you have it. Four things to consider when you mull over that age old question of “what eliquid should I choose?” Hopefully you’re now prepared to go out there and find the perfect liquid for you.
