Review of the Smok Nord Pod Kit from e-cigarette direct.
The team over at E-cigarette Direct very kindly sent out the Smok Nord Pod kit to review in advance of the new Smok 2 coming out later this month.
This kit was sent to us by E-cigarette Direct for the purpose of this review. As with all of my reviews, my thoughts and views are my own after considerable testing, and not in any way biased due to the fact the item was free of charge.

The company was founded in 2008 by Jean Rasbridge and James Dunworth. Safety protections
Vaping Safety is an important aspect to take into account when choosing your first, or next Vaping device, you want to be sure that the device you are using, will perform as it should do, 100% of the time.
To ensure this happens the Smok Nord has the following safety features build in, to ensure that you have not only a safe, but consistent vaping experience.
- Lithium battery protection - Meaning that the battery can’t be overcharged.
- 8 seconds cut off - if your fire button gets pressed accidentally, the device will only fire for a maximum of 8 Seconds.
- Short circuit protection - Should there be an issue with the coil, the device won’t fire, preventing any form of short circuit.
- Low voltage protection - To protect the life of the device, it will shut off when to level of battery charge drops to low.
Coils to match your style
Unlike other Pods on the market, which are closed pod systems, where the coil comes preinstalled in the ‘Pod’, with your chosen flavoured juice profiled,and once the juice has been used up, the whole ‘Pod’ including the tank and the coil need to be thrown away and replaced. Whereas the Nord is an open pod system which means that you only need to replace the coil, when it needs changing, not only keeping the running costs down, but allowing to to choose a different style of coil, to deliver you a different vaping experience.
The Smok Nord kit comes with two Nord coils. The 0.6Ω coils utilises a mesh design to maximise the surface area of the coil, ensure even heat distribution and produces more vapour, making it suitable for a restricted direct-lung style of vaping. Meanwhile, the 1.4Ω ceramic coil offers a higher resistance which makes the device perfect for mouth-to-lung vaping and for vapers who prefer a stronger throat hit.
Style, Design & Build Quality.
The Nord, although small in stature, has a great feel to it, with a nice weight to it, giving it a real premium feel in the hand.
It is effectively made out of two sections, the body of the device, which I believe is made out of some type of powder coated alloy, with plastic panels bonded to both the front and the rear, the Nord comes in a wide choice of colours, 38 designs in total, to suit every taste and style.
The fire button is located on the front of the device, three quarters of the way up the panel.
The fire button has a really nice clicks feel to it, with a nice satisfying’Click’. The fire button has a number of functions, apart from firing the device, 5 Clicks in rapid succession will turn the device on or off,
There's a handy LED light recessed on the button, press it twice, to get the battery charge indicator will illuminate,
Red light will come on when battery power is lower than 30%; orange light will come on when power is between 30% to 70%; and green light will
Display, when power is between 70% to 100%. According to the different light colors you can clearly know the device's battery conditions.
The compact body houses the 1100mAh lithium battery, which will give you enough power to vape through most of the day without worrying about needing to charge it. Due to the fact that the device onLy fires at between 10 to 15w, so uses very little charge. When the red light does finally come on, and you need to plug it in, it will take about two hours to fully charge.
It is simply a matter of plugging the Nord in, via the micro USB socket on the base of the device. As with all lithium battery devices, I would not recommend charging it over night, as you really do not want to leave any charging device unattended, for safety reasons.
The Pod and Mouthpiece.
One of the keys to the Nord vape kit’s success has been the duck-billed mouthpiece. Designed to fit the contours of the lip, it offers additional comfort and has proven an extremely popular feature with vapers.
The tank section of the Pod, is firmly bonded to the mouthpiece. And will hold 2ml of e-liquid. The coil is simply push fitted into the bottom of the pod.
And is held firmly in place with a small o-ring. The base of the coil, then has a positive and negative section, that will then make contact with the terminals located in the top section of the battery body. It is important to ensure that you don’t get and Eliquid, down in around the terminals, as it will make its way down into the internals. And can also cause issues with the pins springing back up etc.
Filling the Pod
When you first use your Nord, it is important that you ‘Prime’ the coil, by just dripping a few drops of liquid onto the juice ports on the coils, before you install it. Then once the coil is installed, you can pull out the small black rubber bung
And the slowly squirt your 2ml of juice into the tank, you may need to pause and tilt the pod to ensure that all the air comes out, making way for the juice.
Once it is full, you can then install the pod, by simply gently pushing the pod and mouth piece back into the battery, until it won’t go in any further.
And leave it to stand for about 5 to 10mins to allow the juice to fully soak into the cotton inside the coil.
You can use the small juice window between between the mouth piece and the battery, can be used to check your ejuice level,
The Smok Nord Vaping Performance
I have had the opportunity to vape on a lot of pod systems, and I must say that the Smok Nord is one of the best, as well as the simplest.
I found that for a pod system, it delivers a great level of flavour, with a super smooth airflow, the duck 🦆 Billed mouth piece is super comfortable to vape on, and the device is well balanced in the hand with the fire button naturally located, and easy to press.
I have found the battery gives you plenty of charge, and lasts through most of the day, with a quick charge needed before I finish work, and head off home. I tend to give it a charge as I don’t really trust the LED indicator, as I have been caught out, when I thought I had more charge than I thought I did, and would have preferred a small screen to display the battery level as a percentage, to help gauge battery life,
Final thoughts on the Smok Nord.
If you looking at getting into vaping, or just looking to upgrade your current pod system, then I would highly recommend the Smok Nord, for its classic style, high end build quality, and bang on flavour,
