The Helio comes fully assembled with a pre made set of dual coil silica wick, so is ready to vape on, just add juice. for the purpose of this review I will remove the wicks and break it down into its component parts a do a full dual coil build.
510 Connection
Underneath the deck connected directly to the split centre post is a none adjustable 510 connector.Helios Deck
As soon as you take the Helios apart you can instantly see what sets it apart from other rebuildable atomisers, the centre post is T shaped, with two positive terminals holes on each side, allowing you to connect a coil on each side with out having to fiddle about threading two coil tails through the same hole. Makes build on it a dream. Your coils are then held in place by two black grub screws, which tighten down well without cutting off the wire, in the process, and once tightened down, stay in place nicely. On either side of the 'T' centre post, are two negative polls, each with a good sized connection hole running through them. These posts have countersunk grub screws, to hold the coil tails in place.
The well machined deck has an approx 3 to 4 ml lip running around it, retaining any excess juice, for preventing leaks, when the chamber is removed.
Running around the outer base of the deck are two thin o-rings, which are used to hold the chamber in place. The deck is the finished off with a 2ml lip that the chamber sits down on.
Centre chamber.
The Helios has a push fit design chamber, which simply presses down over the deck. Here comes the only real negative I came across on the Helios, (and it may just be the one I was sent) but when you fit the top chamber over the deck, I found the fit a tiny bit on the lose side, I think the o-rings could have done with being slightly thicker. As it just comes off a little to easily, compared to say the Trident that reviewed. Especially when it has a bit of juice on.The top of the centre chamber has a threaded section which allows you to securely fit the top cap. The bottom half of the outside of the chamber groves cut around, which adds the the overal look of the RDA. The top half of the chamber is recessed in, which two good sized air holes machined in to one side.
It features a removable air-flow control ring, which is nicely cross-hatched on the outer edge, with a long machined air flow hole cut in one side, which allows you to select a wide range of draw, from tight to wide open.
The air-flow ring simply slips over the top of the chamber, and it held in place when you tighten down the top cap.
The Top Cap.
The top cap is well machined out of stainless steel, with a flat top inside, and raised on the outside leading up to the 510 drip tip hole. The top cap has well machined threaded, which is silky smooth to screw and un-screw from the chamber. As you thigh ten down the top cap you secure the Air-flow ring, setting it in place.Drip Tip
The Helios comes complete with a stylish SS 510 Drip Tip, which is well machined, continuing the overall look of the Helios. It tapers in, in the middle, and then widens out at the moth piece. Which creates a really nice size to comfortably vape on.It has a single o-ring to hold it in place. And once fitted to the top cap. It completes the whole look of the Helios.
AESTHETICS & BUILD QUALITY
The Helios has a great overall look, and looks at home on any of my mods. The Helios for a clone, is well machined out of quality stainless steel. With a well positioned and thought out deck that is a dream to build on, in either single, dual or quad. With well fitting grub screws, that work a well. The only issue as stated was the fit between the deck and the chamber. But it has no effect on me using the RDA on a daily basis as my ADV.The Helios RDA Build.
After completely washing out all the components, and drying off. I started by building a coil on the RBA Coil Jig, out of 28 gauge Kanthal, wrapped 6 times around the 2.36mm winding peg. Once complete you can simple remove the winding peg, and lay it across the deck. You can the simple loosen off the grub screws, using the supplied Alan key. And the feed the tails through the holes, and whilst holding the coil in place on the peg, tighten down both grub screws.
Then repeat on the other side. Once both in place they read at 0.73 ohms. Then pulse fired them on the Mod, to set them in place, ensuring that they both heated at the same time, from the centre of each coil.
Then it's just a matter of threading through some organic rolled cotton wool through each coil, and trimming down to fit, and tuck down into the deck.
Really is the easiest deck to build on, can't get any simpler.
PERFORMANCE & REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE
I have been using the Helios RDA as my all dripper. It vapes like a dream. In the dual coil set up, it produces clouds of thick warm vapor with the airflow wide open.I was I bit unsure of just having the two air holes on one side of the chamber, but found it worked a treat when you set them to the side of the coils, so you are drawing the air in, and across the full length of the coil.
I did find myself running it with the air holes fully open, and after a while just used it with the airflow ring removed.
I have used these dripper to do quite a few juices reviews over the last few weeks, and found it to produce great levels of warmth and flavour.
I found that dripping directly onto the wicks was also a breeze, with simply unscrewing the top cap. Although I found the chamber slightly loss fitting on the deck there was little to no leakage.
Recommendation
I would defiantly recommend the Fog Helios Clone from VIP Vapes Manchester. Whether you are looking for a first RDA that is really easy to practice your builds on, that is very forgiving. Or if you are looking for a deck that you can build quad coils, or stacked quad coil on. The Helios is for you. Producing great warmth and flavour, combined with clouds of lush vapor.MVR RATING
