The RDTA comes fully assembled in the box, ready to install a coil on, and put the batteries in. For the purpose of this review we will have a look at the mod section, then the atomiser head in detail. Then we will put a build on it, and see how it Vapes.
We will also review the optional interchangeable heads that are available from IJOY, that work across the New IJOY range.
Size Comparison.
Size wise the RDTA BOX, including the 12.8ml tank section, comes in at about the same size as the IJOY Limitless Lux mod, that we review the other week, in both height and width, if anything it is a tiny bit taller at 105mm.
As mentioned the only part that is really removable on the RDTA Box, is the Atomiser. So we will start off with the body and intergrated tank first.
RDTA Box Body & Tank.
The RDTA Box body, including the tank measures in at 105mm tall by 28mm wide, narrowing to 25mm on the front edge.
The body section can be seen as three main sections, the colour coded battery cover, the black body Chassis, and the integrated 12.8ml tank.
Battery Cover.
The colour coded zinc alloy battery door, makes up the main part of the body, that you grip as well as the base.
The base of the battery cover features the a slight lip running around the edge, with "Designed and Manufactured by IJOY" and the IJOY logo printed onto the base, sitting just below the RDTA logo, made up of the RDTA letters, laser etched into the base.
The battery cover has an ergonomically designed curved edge to it, which fits nicely in the hand, and features a cut out design on the lower part, which acts as the required battery venting slots.
The opposite edge of the battery cover, has raised edges, which allow the cover to slide effortlessly and securely onto the body
The colour coded battery cover, has simple branding printed onto one side, RDTA Box.
The battery cover, simply slides up onto the Chassis from the bottom, into a set of matching slots running up either side, and is held firmly in place by a couple of recessed plastic spring clips.
Body Chassis
As you slide off the battery cover, you gain access to the neatly laid out battery compartment.
I was quite surprised how well the pair of plastic spring clips hold the casing firmly in place, not sure if they will where over time, causing the cover to become loss, would have liked to have possible seen a pair of magnets, as with the limitless Lux case.
IJOY have done an amazing job with the RDTA Box battery tray, one of the nicest I have come across, especially for the amazingly low price point. They have even gone to the effort of adding a carbon fibre effect to the plastic, on the underside of the tray. With some additional subtle branding.
The carbon effect neatly runs around to the top & bottom edges of the tray.
The RDTA Box tray will take two 18560 batteries which are held firmly in place, by the bottom mounted brass sprung loaded battery contacts.
Rather than adding a battery release strap, which could get caught, when installing the battery cover, they have added a neat little poke hole behind battery 1, to allow you to easily pop them out.
The batteries are installed with ease, with the orientation of the batteries clearly marked in the plastic.
Display & Functions.
The RDTA Box Mod features a very brightly lite OLED display measuring 22mm X 13mm and displays all the information you will need to get the best possible vaping experience.
Displaying the following information.
- Wattage
- Vaping Style
- Coil Resistance
- Puff Counter.
- Battery bar indicator.
The RDTA Box has a second menu screen which can be accessed by pressing the fire button 3 times in quick succession.
This screen can be navigated, by using the '+' and '-' buttons located under the screen. And allows you to access and control the following features.
N - Nickel wire
T - Titanium Wire
S - Stainless Steal
P - Power Mode Kanthal
Screen Rotation- Allows you to invert the display.
User Mode - When enter to this mode, the screen display NORM/HARD /SOFT/USER
Manage the mode of Power/temperature control:
- Norm Mode: That's is your current wattage chosen before.
- Hard Mode: Powerful +30% than your setting before wattage.
- Soft Mode: Powerful -20% than your setting before wattage.
According to personal like,it allows users to customize working waveband before 3 seconds out put wattage.
Setting.
LED - With the Setting menu, you have the choice of setting the Tank LED to illuminate when the fire button is pressed, or not.
Puff - This allows you to reset your front screens Puff counter.
Fire & Control buttons,
The RDTA Box has one of the largest fire buttons that I have come across, measuring 22mm X 17.5mm.
The colour coded plastic button, sits flush with the rest Chassis, which avoids accidental pressing. It has a great positive click to it, and can be activated across the full surface of the button, even the edge of the button, results in a positive click.
The small control switches, measuring approx 6.5mm X 3mm, located just below the main screen, finished in stainless steel, allow you to navigate around the menu screens, as well as adjusting your selected wattage or temperature.
There is zero rattle from either the buttons or the batteries, all very solidly put together.
USB Socket.
The USB Socket can be used to carry out firmware updates
Tank Section.
The New and unique feature of the RDTA Box is the integrated tank system, which is non-removable and installed onto the top of the main Chassis, and secured and protected by a coloured coded casing.
Measuring 55mm long, 28mm wide by 18mm tall tapering up to 8mm at one end. This massive tank, holds a total of 12.8ml of Eliquid when full.
The tank is filled through the 15mm pour hole located on the top of the tank,
The fill port is secured, with a threaded stainless steel top cap.
The top cap has notches running around the outer edge, to assist with installing. The top cap has a small oring running around the topp inner lip, to ensure that it is tightly sealed off .
Cleaning & Storage.
They also supply a small long handled cleaning brush to assist in cleaning out the tank, which is accomplished by carefully rising out the tank, with warm water, then brushing around with the brush.
With in the kit they supply you with two white silicone cap, which can be installed when storing and traveling with the RDTA Box.
The larger silicone cap, presses down over the RDTA to prevent any leakage whilst traveling.
The small silicone cap, is used to seal off the tank, whilst the RDTA section is removed, to prevent any spillage, should the mod be knocked over.
Filling.
Due to the wide 15mm opening filling is a breeze, no need for dripping juice in, just take the top cap off and pour it in.
To assist with checking you Juice level, Ijoy have installed a white LED light underneath the tank, which illuminates once the fire button is depressed.
The tank level can then be checked through the three slots that have been machined into both sides of the tank, which seem to take there styling quest from the Limitless Lux Mod.
RDTA Atomiser
At the opposite end of the tank is the atomiser connection, which connects directly into the tank, via a 20mm circular opening, which has the 10mm positive Pin running up through it.
You can then choose between either of the supplied decks,
IMC-3 : which is based on your classic velocity style deck, which is gold plated, with twin vertically posts, with two post holes in each, which are secured by grub screws.
IMC Coil 3 : This pre-made Coil chip, has three Kanthal Coils installed, and wicked with organic cotton.
Your chosen build deck then threads down directly into the threaded positive post. Ensuring not to over tighten.
Once the deck is installed, you can then thread on the sealing coller, which I think is made about of brass, and measures 23.4mm wide and 7.5mm tall.
The sealing ring threads down over the deck threading, and tightens down onto the top of the tank.
The sealing ring, has two fat recessed o-rings running around the outer edge, which securely holds the Atomiser chamber in place. It also features an o-ring running around the base, which creates the seal, when screwed down.
Once in place, it seals off the bottom of the Atomiser and deck, and prevents juice from leaking out from under the atomiser.
The RDTA comes with a colour coded RDTA chamber, which measures in at only 12.9mm tall, with two parallel air-flow slots, measuring 15mm X 0.5mm.
Compared with the standard limitless RDTA chamber which comes in at 20mm, due to the exact same internal diameter 23.2mm, you can interchange the chambers to suit your style for the day.
The RDTA Box Atomiser comes with a Delrin Chuff cap, press screwed into the air-flow ring, which slides down into the chamber, and through rotating the chuff cap, allows you to adjust the air-flow.
As with the deck and chamber, the chuff cap/air-flow ring is interchangeable with the other newer limitless RDTA's.
RDTA Box Mod Build.
The build on the RDTA works in the same way as the Limitless Combo and Limitless Classic. Apart from the fact that the build has to be done whilst the deck is installed, as the deck can't fitted to the 521 TAB, due to the none standard connector. Hopefully IJOY will bring out some kind of 510 Adaptor, which you can screw the build deck into, plus could be used to, allow you to instantly all other 510 atomisers onto the RDTA Box, if required.
The Coils are easily installed on the supplied Velocity style deck.
The wicks can be cut, rolled and installed through the Coils, cutting them off to length to allow the tails of the wicks, to run down just into the tank, they don't need to be long, or run to the bottom of the tank, if anything the wick better when they are shorter.
The wicks can The be carefully placed down through the juice ports in the sides of the deck, ensuring to to compact them to much, keeping them as nice and fluffy as possible.
Once in place, the Seal Ring can be screwed down carefully, ensuring not to cross thread it, the best way is to to just back thread it and couple of turns, to line up the threading. It can then tightened down onto the top of the tank, with just enough force to create a seal, without over tightening it.
Optional Interchangeable Build Decks.
On of the massive advantages of the RDTA Box Mod, is the fact you can interchange the build decks, with any of the new range of IMC decks, that can be purchased separately from HeavenGifts.com.
There is a wide range of decks, all quality made, and gold plated, that will suit all Vaping and building styles.
Real World Experiences.
I was really excited to get my hands on the New RDTA Box Mod, as I was a massive fan of the latest IJOY & Limitless line up, which I have been using over the last few months.
Apart from the interchangeable head, the stand out feature of this device is the massive 12.8ml tank, which is a real game changer, and seems to accommodate the latest trend for bigger and bigger sub-ohm builds, running at higher wattages, which for anyone that has used them, know that they defiantly drink through juice at a fair rate, having that bigger tank will definitely keep those Coils feed for a fair old time.
Or when running it with more standard Coils, you going to be able to Vape on it all day with out having to worry about having to refill it.
I love the look and feel of the RDTA Box, it has the look of more a mod and dripper set-up, with the short set top cap, and inter-grated tank set up.
When set up right, the RDTA Box, is a dream to Vape on, great level of flavour from the reduced chamber, and clouds of vapor for hours, you can take the longest hits off this thing, with zero dry hits. I keep thinking that I should be dripping juice into it.
I found filling and cleaning the tank so easy, with the massive 15mm fill cap, you can literally just dump your juice in straight out of the bottle. And when it comes to cleaning it, I use an old 100ml bottle which i fill with warm water and just keep filling it, and tipping it out, whilst giving it a rub around with the cleaning brush.
Conclusion & Recommendations.
I absolutely love the RDTA Box Mod, it seems to take everything that I want in a mod, dual 18560 set up, large clear screen, and combines it with one of my current favourite RDTA Styles from the New limitless range, to produce one hell of a set up. It's as if IJOY read my mind.
I think the only thing I would change, would be a add in a multi purpose 510 Adaptor of some type, which would allow you to connect the build decks to the 510 connection on the 521 Tabs, plus allow you to fit other 510 Atomisers to the the mod, if required.
And personally I would like the option, to be able to remove the outer casing from the tank, when cleaning and inspecting. Plus they would be able to bring out a range of custom tank cages, to suit your style.
I would definitely recommend that you get your hands on the RDTA Box Mod, you won't be disappointed. Especially for the coupon price for just under $40, that's less than you would pay for a lot of tanks.
