Build and design quality.
The extensive range mods to hold the Aegis name, are known for their specific style and destructible durability, and the L200 or Legend 2 seems to be be the culmination of many years of testing, design and customer and reviewers feed back.
I’m glad to see they have made the L200 a bit less of a ‘pant-puller’ than the previous legend, coming in at a 126.7 grams less than its predecessor.
As well as weighing less, it is also more durable, as Geekvape have taken the previous IP67 rating, and managed, through clever design, to push it up to IP68 rating, so as well as being waterproof, Dustproof and shop roof, it is now also Leakproof. Making it one of the most indestructible devices on the market in 2021. Although I’m not sure how the loose fitting USB cover, would stop water getting into the body, but they must have tested it fully, to be able to put such a rating on. And I didn’t fancy throwing it in the bath to test it, as far to nice.
Apart from the toughness, and overall high end design, the have also managed to increase the size and clarity of the screen, taking it from 0.91-inch OLED full colour display. To the improved and larger 1.08-inch, TFT Colour screen which gives a sharp vibrant display.
The body of the L200 has a stunning polished Alloy D frame running around it’s body, this D Frame has been the signature style of the Aegis. And gives it a really solid feel in the hand, as well as looking super cool. This version has moved away from the previous rubberised coatings, and instead has a contrasting brushed aluminium chassis, which has been topped and tailed with, matching grey rubber ends, which gives it a nice sturdy finish, and none slip base.
The top of the device has an alloy plate , screwed on, surrounding the sprung loaded 510 connection, the charging port has been upgraded to a Type-C , which is neatly hidden under a lift up rubber flap, located just next to the 510 plate.
The original Legend had issues with the battery door, which was quite hard to shut and latch. I’m pleased to report that the L200’s battery boor works like a charm, nicely sprung loaded, and closes with a little amount of pressure, and snaps shut. I have had no issues with it opening or closing.
To add to the overall Premium feel of the Aegis Legend 2, they have wrapped the main body section with plush grey leather, with a nice amount of padding, with matching exposed stitching running in parallel up the spine of the device. They have also added three little light grey thick lines, not sure what for. Apart from the look.
New Locking Switch
I haven’t come across a manual locking switch before on a mod, but it is a great addition, and super useful, As I have never particularly liked the multi press system for locking other devices, and tend to leave it unlocked. Geekvape has added a lock switch just below the ‘Aegis’ branding on the sub-frame.
Sliding the switch down will lock all the buttons, and display a little locked symbol on the screen, I must admit that I did forget about the lock switch, and couldn’t work out why it wasn’t firing, and after pressing all the buttons, in all combinations, I remembered that I had locked it.
Controls.
I like the fact that Geekvape have kept the sloped fire button, which feels great to press, with a nice solid ‘click’.
The adjustment controls have been put into a single peace rocker switch, with the same finish as the fire button, nicely matching the brushed alloy body.
The TFT Display
The 1.08” TFT Display is bright and vibrant, with all the information you are going to need whilst vaping.
Displaying the following information:
- Output Mode
- Battery level (Both cells)
- Set Power
- Coil Resistance
- Current Output
- Voltage Output
- Puff Count
GeekVape Legend 2 Menu Modes
There are a small number of button sequences to operate the L200.
- 5 x clicks of the fire button will turn the device on and off.
- 3 x clicks of the fire button will allow you to scroll through Output modes
- Once in Output adjustment mode, you can scroll down to adjust coil resistance and reset puff count by pressing the fire button
- Press and Hold Fire & + button – Brightness Up
- Press and Hold Fie & – button – Brightness Down
The Output modes include
- Variable Wattage,
- Temp Control for Nickel, Titanium and Stainless Steel wire.
There is also a curves and Bypass mode which effectively allows the device to act like a Mech mod.
The Geekvape Z Tank.
The Legend 2 Kit comes with the new Z Tank. Which is matched to the finish of the L200, so the one that came in my kit was stainless steel, with a choice of 5.5ml Bubble Glass. Or the 2ml TPD Straight Glass. And a pre installed 810 ‘Goon’ style drip tip.
The top cap, has some nice cut out machining around the rim, to allow easy unscrewing. The top cap comes off with a simple quarter turn.
Once removed you gain access to the two opposing kidney shapes fill ports.
Sitting just below the fill port is the airflow control ring. Which to me, let’s down the tank, due to the fact that the control ring, is so loose, to the point that it has come off a couple of times when I have taken the top cap off. Either the o rings are too small, or just poorly designed. The AFC ring also turns a little to freely for my liking, and I found myself having to readjust quite a few times.
The bottom section, has matching machining to the top cap. And is unscrewed, to gain access to the coils.
The coils are press fitted, but you need to line up the lugs on each side, to ensure they are fitted correctly.
Within the base of the tank, it has an unusual set up, to make contact with the coil base.
The GeekVape Z Coils
The Geekvape Z tank comes with two mesh coils.
A single mesh coil that comes out at approx 0.2Ω and is recommended between 70 and 80 watts and the dual mesh Z coil is rated at 0.25Ω
The 0.2Ω Z Mesh Coil (70-80w)
The 0.2Ω coil is more diverse than the 70-80 watts recommended by Geekvape.
I found the experience quite good at around 60 watts but after a while I crept up to 75 watts and it performs very well.
First of all for flavour, the coil performs very well.
Pulling out the sweet notes of my e-liquids along with being a nice saturated vape.
The 0.25Ω Z Mesh Coil (45-57w)
Due to this being a dual mesh coil, delivering more airflow restriction than with the single mesh Z coil
At 55 watts, seems to be the sweet spot for me, Although I found the flavour to be not quite as good as the single 0.2Ω Z coil, its still decent, and a nice cloud, but just not as rewarding.
Batteries and Charging
The L200 Mod offers a 2 Amp Charging rate, which will offer a great speed of charge, although I would always recommend charging the 18650 batteries externally.
The device can also deliver Pass-thru charging which means you can still vape on the device whilst its charging, in case you just can’t wait.
Oddly enough – the GeekVape Aegis Legend 2 doesn’t come with the industry leading battery balancing technology that Geekvape introduced for the Aegis X. Which would have been nice.
Everyday Use and Performance.
I have been living with the Geekvape Legend 2 for the last 3 weeks, as my go to every mod, using it with both the supplied Z tank, as well as the OXVA Arbitor RTA, to see how it handled at high wattages.
The Legend 2 feels great in the hand, and performs really well, delivering plenty of power all day long, it looks great with most stainless steel tank, although anything above 25mm seems to have a bit of overhang.
The flavour from the coils are spot on, and definitely above the normal stock coils, you would expect in such a kit. and they seem to last well, and don’t get to clogged to quickly.
Positives 👍
- Great design and style
- IP68 Rated Durability
- Simple to operate
- Large Clear TFT Didplay
- Solid improved Battery Door
- Manual Locking switch
- Comfortable to hold
- Good flavour from included Coils
- 2Amp Charging.
Negatives 👎
- Display seems dim when outdoors
- Airflow Ring is far to loose.
Final Thoughts 💭
If your in the market for a hard wearing mod that will stand out to the knocks and bumps off life, then you wouldn’t go far wrong in choosing the Legend 2. Even if it is a little less industrial looking than the tough nut Aegis X.
Head over to the Geekvape store to grab one for yourself.
