The Hell Vape team got in touch over Twitter, when they where looking for testers of the ir new RTA Mesh tank. And very kindly sent out a sample of the Dead Rabbit R Tank.

The Hell Vape Dead Rabbit R Tank comes in a choice colours, I was sent the Rainbow 🌈 Version, but would love to get my hands on some of the Matt finish tanks.
Dead Rabbit R Tank Design & Build Quality.
From the outside the R Tank looks the same as many other tanks on the market, with the familiar five ten style connect, adjustable bottom airflow, and bayonet design fill cap. Although when it comes to the design, I love the well-placed Dead Rabbit branding around the waist of the tank section. And the nicely embossed Celtic band running around the air flow ring at the bottom, and the top cap section, are a really nice addition, and give the tank a really pleasing design, especially in the rainbow finish.
Base Section & 510 connection.
As stated the R Tank features a standard 510 connection, with minimal bum branding.
Just a simple Hellvape logo. The R Tank, features a bottom feed airflow system, with balanced airflow slots on both sides of the base section, comprising of two thin horizontal slots, sitting behind a removable airflow control ring, that has a nice amount of resistance when adjusting, and the Celtic band running around t for extra grip, with juice covered fingers.
Very clever design, has positioned the coil leg retaining screws behind the the airflow ring, and with a simple turn of the AFC ring, you expose the two flat head screws, set back into the base section, which need to be accessed when installing the Mesh Coils. Very clever design, and has allowed them to keep the overall size of the Atomiser down, keeping it as compact as possible.
Top Cap and Fill port.
The slightly tapered top cap section, features a removable wide bore 510 drip tip, with integrated o-rings to keep it nice and snug.
The fill ports can be accessed via a quarter turn of the top cap bayonet design, again with the matching Celtic band design, for ease of opening.
Underneath the top cap are two standard kidney shaped fill ports, which are the perfect size for quick filling with any needle nosed juice bottle.
Tank Glass.
The Dead Rabbit R tank comes with the 5ml straight glass preinstalled, but included in the pack I was sent, is the 6.5ml bubble glass. And if you are unlucky enough to have to get the TPD edition, it will come with some type of block, to take the tank down to only 2ml, which will keep you busy filling.
Build Deck Design.
It’s only when you open her up, do you get to see the really clever stuff. Beautifully simple, So simple, you can’t think why it hasn’t been done before. What the Hellvape team have done, is sort of designed a ‘reverse coil design’. With the outside coil casing making up part of the deck, meaning that all you have to do is to insert the coil and the cotton, to get the perfect vape every time.
The Dead Rabbit R Tank Build.
As I said, with the way they have designed the deck, the build really couldn’t be simpler.
The kit comes with some well written, and illustrated instructions, which show you in three simple steps how to install the coils and cotton.
The kit comes with 5 custom made cotton strips, and 5 x 0.2ohm Mesh coils. And you can buy Dead Rabbit R Tank Coil and Cotton kits direct from Hellvape.
But I’m sure that the likes of Wotofo and OFRF NexMESH
Will produce a variety of coils and cotton strips to go inside the R Tank. As I think this design classic will be around for years to come, and as always, lots of other company’s will follow on from this style of deck.
The build couldn’t be simpler, and with a bit of practice you can get it down to the 15 second reload, that they state on the Hellvape website.
Start by taking your R Tank apart, and unscrew the base section, and pull out the build deck.
Then adjust the Air Flow Ring to expose the two coil screws, and the loosen them off as much as you can with taking them out, this will ensure the coil holes in the deck are as large as possible for easy installation.
Then putting the deck aside, take one of the pre-cut cotton strips out of the pack of five, and lay it down, so the cut corner it at the top left, not sure why, but that is what the instructions say.
Then place your Mesh Coil in the center of the cotton, with the legs pointing downwards.
Making sure to ensure that it is in the center of the cotton strip.
Then take your Hellvape coiling rod, (which I wish they had made a bit longer) and place the narrow end across the coil.
And in one smooth movement, sort of shape the coil and the cotton, around the rod, pinching the cotton strips between your finger and thumb, as tightly as you can, and as close the rod as you can.
If you have pinched it tight enough, it should then simply slide down into the decks coil cage, by lining up the cotton tails with the open side slot in the cage. It will ensure that the coil legs will simply fall into the open holes in the deck. Due to the fact that the coil leg holes have been manufactured nice a large, they seem to effortlessly slide in every time.
Definitely a lot less fiddly than I thought it would be, when I read the instructions. So big thumbs up 👍 for ease of installation.
Once in place, you can the release the cotton tails, and they will stay firmly in place. And then you can just move your finger and thumb to the 510 connection, and the top of the coiling rod. Effectively pushing the coil down into the deck, allowing you to screw the screws in nice and tight, holding the coil and cotton, in place. Once all tight, you can then, using you snips, cut the excess cotton off, as close to the cage as possible.
Then it’s just a matter of priming the coil, with your chosen juice, inserting the base and cage into the tank, and screwing it in place, I did find that in took a couple of turns, before it started to thread.
Once closed up tight, you can then open up the top cap, and fill her up.
Flavour and Performance.
The Dead Rabbit R Tank is advertised as offering a Extremely Superior Flavor. and on this occasion I would have to agree, Historically vertical Mesh Coils have always seemed to deliver amazing flavours, and with the layout and design with this one the Hellvape team have absolutely nailed it, only enhanced by the bottom airflow and reduced chamber size.
The flavour it produces is warm yet precise. Offering a great depth of flavour, I have in the past found Rebuildable Mesh coils to feel a little dry, and less full bodied. But definitely not the case with the R Tank.
Final thoughts,
As I stated earlier in this review, I think Hellvape have been revolutionary with this design, and I think in the coming months, you will see many for similar designs, incorporating this style of Rebuildable inside out coils designs, but going forward this will always be referred to as the Dead Rabbit R Tank deck design.
