You may well be wondering why the Arbiter needed an upgrade so soon after its launch, the head designer at OXVA Justin Lai stated that he wanted to respond to customers feedback, by developing a more compact Arbiter, whilst maintaining its leakproof qualities, and giving builders as much space as possible, to position their single or dual coil builds. And as best a flavour as possible.
The original Arbiter measured in at 28mm which is slightly wider than the average mod on the market today, hence the desire to scale down the Arbiter 2, which measures in at 24.5mm at the base, and 26mm across its waist, which is definitely more suited to the majority of today’s mods.
T2B Fanned Airflow
As part of this facelift Justin, has also fine tuned the airflow design, keeping with the original Top to Bottom design, but this time, delivering the airflow, through a fan shaped defused, to ensure the maximum amount of coverage of the coils, wether that be single or dual. I must say that this redesign, has definitely improved the overall Vaping experience. Giving you a much smoother draw, with less noise, and disruption. Plus a fuller more precise flavour in my opinion.
100% LEAKPROOF
The other massive benefit of putting the external airflow slots above the tank, is the fact that you can guarantee that the RTA is 100% leakproof, never mind how long your tank stands for, or which pocket you put it in. When you think about it, all tanks should be designed this way. As it never seems to matter how well you wick you bottom airflow tank, they always seem to leak, especially after you fill them up. But no such issue with either the Arbiter or the Arbiter 2. Dry pants all round.
POSTLESS DECK
The original Arbiter deck, although easy to build on, was quite proscriptive as to the coils you could use and the positioning.
The new deck, although slightly harder to build on, due to it being set tightly between the airflow baffles, definitely gives you more freedom to build, with more space, allowing you to choose from either fat single, or tighter dual coils. Although the wider wicking ports, in my opinion, does lean more towards a pair of dual coils, to prevent any flooding.
UN.DETACHABLE AIRFLOW CHAMBER
Departing from the detachable airflow chamber in the original Arbiter, they have gone with a more standard, less fiddly design, making the airflow chamber part of the internal chimney section, which does make for easier set up, when putting the tank back together. This change in design, in no way detracts from the performance or ease of maintenance of the RTA.
Easy of Build
I found both the Arbiter and the version two, both super easy to build on, with the later giving you more scope to personalise your build and fine tune it, for both flavour and vapor production.
I found the Arbiter 2 definitely more suited for a dual coil build, although you do need to make sure that the coils are precisely spaced, as not to much room, when you use the supplied claptons.
The wicking just seems more balanced when running dual coils, and was a little concerned, when I ran it with single coil that it would flood, due to a lack of cotton, although it didn’t.
You also need to work out your coil leg length, carefully trimming, to ensure you get the height right. Could have done with some sort of guide, to tell you where to cut them, for perfect placement. I ended up just winging it, and cutting by eye. And seemed to work out fine, sorry, didn’t measure them so can’t pass on the knowledge.
Flavour & Performance.
I was super impressed with the flavour flooding off the pair of coils, I was also go as far as to say, it was better than the original. And having used it for a month, it is definitely in my top 5 RTA, which says a lot, when you see how many RTA’s I have. Not sure if it’s the fan airflow, or the positioning of the coils, in the reduced chamber, or even the height between the coils and the the drip tip. But it just work so well, and most importantly, it works well consistently. Build after build, so you know it isn’t just a lucky build. Or one off wicking.
I would put the flavour on-par with an RDA. As far as flavour reproduction. The coils seem to get feed just the right amount of Eliquid, not to over cook the flavour. Very impressive.
Final thoughts ðŸ’
I have been so impressed with a OXVA products, the Velocity Pod-Mod, is my all time favourite Pod-mod, bar none. And the Arbiter 2 is now one of my favourite RTA. I can only put this down to the level of perfection that Justin aims for. Ans as proven with the Arbiter, if he thinks he can improve it, then he does. Putting Vaping perfection, front and center in his design process.
